FAQs

What is Effortless Mindfulness (EM)?

1

EM is a way of shifting attention and identity to a natural, awake awareness that is always present, rather than striving for a special state. It is based on the following premises:

  • Awake awareness is already here within us.

  • It is the foundation of our true nature, Self, and mind.

  • We can access it directly through glimpses or unblending.

  • The realization of nonduality is that formless awake awareness is arising as form - relative to body, mind, and world.

  • Through glimpsing regularly, we can stabilize and embody this awareness in everyday life.

What’s the Foundations of Effortless Mindfulness?

2

EM is an integration of ancient wisdom, contemporary neuroscience, and therapeutic insight, providing a direct, accessible, and scientifically-supported path to awakening. This synthesis allows EM to be practiced and taught in a way that is both deeply rooted in contemplative traditions and highly applicable to contemporary life and professional practice.

Who leads the sessions?

Sessions are facilitated by certified EM Facilitators from around the globe who have been taught directly by Loch Kelly. They act as companions, not gurus or experts. Their role is to create a supportive space, offer a Glimpse and gentle guidance.

What happens during a session?

4

Facilitators offer a short introduction to a short micro-meditation called "Glimpses" to help you recognize and rest in awake awareness. There is no pressure to achieve anything - just an invitation to notice what is already inherent. Each Glimpse is followed by a short period where participants can ask questions or share their reports.

Is this a religious practice or therapy?

5

EM is not a religion, belief system, or fixed dogma. Neither is it therapy. Instead, it is an experiential approach rooted in direct discovery. Though grounded in a set of premises and methods, EM emphasizes experience over conceptual understanding. Its style is not instructional but invitational. It is about recognizing and resting in your natural awareness, open to all backgrounds.

Do I need any experience to join?

6

No experience is necessary. Everyone is welcome, whether you are new to mindfulness or have practiced before.

Do I have to attend every session?

8

No, you can join as little or as often as you like. Each session stands alone and is designed to be accessible a few times a week with different facilitators. This said, practice makes a habit - the more you come the more EM becomes a natural part of your life.
